Polyurethane is a versatile polymer formed by the reaction of a diisocyanate with a polyol, which can have different shapes and densities depending on the components and process used in its manufacture. Its forms include flexible foams, rigid foams, elastomers, and liquid resins. Polyurethane finds use in many applications because of its ability to combine the hardness and durability of metal with the elasticity of rubber and the insulation of foam. Although not as simple as other plastics, polyurethane can be recycled or reused in some cases, such as shredded and added to other products.
